Locating Our True Self Beneath The Noise
There is no doubt that humans are social creatures. We thrive on connection its in our nature. Spending time with people, talking, laughing, loving, and discovering each other. But somewhere in the middle of all of these diverse connections we forget the most important one of them all: the connection with ourselves.
This unique connection that links our soul and mind is found in solitude. Solitude is not about isolation, and its not about romanticizing loneliness, solitude is honoring parts of us that cannot be unraveled beneath the noise and spotlight. The mind creates symbols, images, and answers that cannot truly echo between the babble of the everyday life. We tend to numb and run away from our thoughts, our pain, our dreams, by distracting ourselves with these connections, we ignore the wants our souls crave. That's why many find discomfort in solitude they find the silence too loud, they're scared of finding nothingness, emptiness, they're scared of finding the void they've been avoiding with the noise.
What some don't understand is that discomfort is a sign of growth, and understanding, when we start embracing stillness our raw self begins to resurface. This kind of growth and space can only exist when were brave enough to sit with what hurts, curios enough to sit with what confuses us, and gentle enough to sit with what we've ignored. There is another presence beneath our name, roles, and habits that waits to be discovered. In solitude there is only you, no preforming, no impressing, just you.
Solitude provides space, and freedom. It doesn't distance us from humanity, on the contrary, it returns us to it on a much truer path. When you think about it, it all makes perfect sense. How can we possibly understand others when we cannot fully understand ourselves? How can we possibly love others when we cannot properly love ourselves? When we cannot fully forgive ourselves? How can we find honest joy in other's company when we cannot find joy within ourselves, and enjoy our own company? In solitude we become more aware of our desires and needs, we become more grounded, and we become more devoted to our beliefs, grasping onto our thoughts and principals. Not only that, we also become more aware of our surroundings, we become more comprehensive of other humans, and learn to become more appreciative.
This reconnection with life and feeling whole only awakens in solitude. Its not an escape its a slow return to life. And this all can be achieved through sitting with the agonizing discomfort until its feels like freedom.
